Mountain Art

Before I took the plunge in to drawer slides, hinges and handles, I started out with easier wood projects that required very little hardware, easy 45° angles and some wood glue. 

I am a huge fan of Etsy.  I love finding items from small family-owned businesses, and especially love supporting work-from-home parents that are attempting to raise children while making some extra income. If you have followed my previous blog, LivingSemiCrunchy, you know I go waaaaaay back to the Hyena Cart days. Hyena Cart was the era before Etsy came along. An online site that I often purchased my handmade cloth diapers for my daughter.  Almost 11 years later, and I continue to support these smaller businesses from all over the United States. 

...but, like most creative individuals, I started asking myself if I could make the things I was seeing online for an exuberant amount of money?! The answer was YES! That is how my rough draft of the 3 part Mountain Wood Wall Art came to be. 

In pictures it looks great, ready to be sold online, right?! Well, as with any rough draft, there were red correction marks in a thousand locations after finishing (no, I didn’t really make correction marks, but my husband points them out often enough!). So, what do you do with a Rough Draft Wood project? You redo it of course! 

This project is becoming easier, I have figured out some tips along the way, and as a result, I now have friends asking for a set of this to hang in their own homes! Winning!

I wanted a narrow desk and couldn’t find exactly what I wanted.  Next thing you know I was building a pair of nightstands. Wood Wall Art - Where it all began!

Geometric Wood Wall Art.   The project that snowballed my love for creating my own home decor and building all the things. Originally inspired by @AngelaRoseHome cheap $20 #DIYWallArt I eventually drew the plans from @Brepurposed blog post which was actually a backdrop to a floating bench in her laundry room.   I  started my project at my new favorite hangout, @HomeDepot, where I purchased a piece of precut 2x4 underlayment which was around $8. Then I decided to ditch the 1x2 common pine boards that were recommended and opted for some thinner 1/4” pine moulding.     My first error in judgement and the reason this project should be considered #RoughDraft! MY first new tool!

Tools. An investment, that if chosen properly, can last a lifetime. I have learned in my 39 years that not all things are made the way they used to be. Not just tools, but trucks, appliances, toys, etc.    So finding a well made tool that will last through all your projects and whatever wear and tear you put it through, is worth the time to research and possibly spend a bit more money for quality.  Many of the tools I use for projects had already been purchased by my husband. Long before he had a garage to organize with drawers and cabinets and pegboards, he had been collecting ratchet sets, drill bits and all the other things that (I thought only) men collect in garages. For years, I would roll my eyes when he would tell me about something he found on sale at Home Depot for a fraction of the cost.
